The Beach, FL: Halloween weekend is upon us, and as we inch closer to November the games start meaning a little more each week. With regards to all of us that will be doing some heavy drinking on Saturday night, let’s compare the TV game this weekend with our favorite ghoulish drinks.

The Beach, FL- As I sat at my bar last night and watched Cliff Lee sit the Yankees down , some patrons started discussing the BCS, right before they left for the strip club. It got me thinking that we are getting close to the fun that is Bowl Season. Before the fun though comes the controversy of the bowl selection process, especially the BCS nonsense. As I shook another Cosmopolitan to a couple business ladies, I thought, how is this college football season going to shake out. Who is going to be left standing, and who is going to get screwed. Here is my prediction on how the season will shape up as we get closer to Bowl Championship Series (by the way why do they call it a series, when it’s a one game championship?).

The Chosen One
The Beach, FL – The Florida Gators won another close-weird-lack of offense-bad officiated game again this weekend. The #1 ranked team in the land, has looked anything but perfect this year, almost as if they are about to fall any second now. There fearless leader, Tim Tebow, was anything but Heisman-like on Saturday (12-22 127 yards 0 TD 2 INTS; 22 rushes for 88 yards and 1 TD). Tebow did show once again why he is a late round pick in April’s NFL draft, he’s just not that good of a thrower. What bugs me the most about Tebow is his holy-talk, he’s not the first and for sure will not be the last athlete to talk up Christ. So after the Gators sluggish win Saturday, I was all ready to hear Tebow explain that it was God’s plan for them to win the game.

Spokane, WA – The BuckNuts can breath a sigh of relief, the king of playing not to lose Jim Tressel was able to knock off a 500 team. Of course Minnesota had a tough time scoring against Penn State and Purdue in previous weeks, the Gophers did manage a late score. Goldy didn’t even make fun of Ohio State this week. So I guess I will.

Airway Heights, WA – Just outside the door of the casino I am sandwiched between a bankrupt racetrack and a state prison. This is not any place to expect to see Queen Elizabeth II, but if Bill Belichick wants to see her, he has the chance this week. It is time for the NFL to schill its form of football across the pond.
In honor of the American Bowl in Wembley Stadium we compare this weeks games to different kinds of Scotch, it is part of Great Britain and the only Alcohol the English are good at is Newcastle and Tetley’s. Understand that Scotch is a personal choice, usually based on wallet size. According to Wikipedia, the earliest written record of Scotch was in 1494, so about the time Lou Holtz was born. It was written in the Exchequer Rolls, “Eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor, by order of the King, wherewith to make aqua vitae.” For us American football fans aqua vitae, means “water of life.” Much as the NFL is the “sport of life” to Americans.

Spokane, WA – As I enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains, ok really the peace and quiet of not hearing North Carolina fans watch a football game still thinking it is big deal to beat Florida State, I pulled out this weekends schedule. Of course the Heels still found a way to blow it after I wrote my first line. Damn the ACC sucks.

The Beach, FL: As I was reading Just A. Bartender’s blog last night I realized that he was in Washington state. Why is it we only use this term when discussing Washington (state)? How come know one ever says, “Hey this weekend, I’m going to Nebraska state.” Just one of many things to think about when you’re sitting at your favorite bar or watching some sports on TV this weekend. Speaking of sports on TV, here’s some things to catch.

Spokane, WA – My travels have led me to Spokane, Washington, to cover a poker event, but my mind is still on football. We have already taken a look forward at the AFC, now it is time to for the NFC.

Spokane, WA – Last week was the anniversary of Dennis Green’s famous post game, “we knew who they are” tirade. At this point in the NFL season do we know who they are? The Broncos and Saints seem to be the best teams, hmmm, it does seem weird, so taking a brief look division by division in the AFC first to think about who is who and what to expect.
