Brett Favre Lives

Minneapolis, MN – You know what, for all of you that have a problem with Brett Favre playing football, fuck off… In this world of stripping down to get on an airplane or having to agree to obey if I am going to use your wifi siganal, we need a John Wayne-like character in the good old US of pussydom.

On my flight up to see Favre stand around and not play a pointless pre-season game (thank you NFL owners for being greedy pigs so we can pay a ton to watch guys that couldn’t start for the Gophers play), I watched Rocky Balboa.  This is the most underrated of all the Rocky movies, because honestly if Sylvester Stallone would have skipped the bull shit and made this after only Rocky I and II, it may be one of the greatest trilogies of all time.  Before all you WOP loving fools go nuts about the Godfather trilogy, this is about sports, so gun totting fuck criminals.  I only wish Rocky Balboa would have existed, in the final installment of Sly’s Rocky story, he personifies what is right about being a sports guy. Rocky reminds us in this movie that it about the game itself, not the rings, the belts, the money, or the glory, instead it is about proving to yourself why you do it.  Did anyone ask Favre if he loved the game, no they just worried about HIS legacy, not about what he wanted to do?

The Big Ten Decides

September 1st, 2010 § 0

Dilworth, NC – We have the divisions, they did it, Ohio State and Michigan have been separated, to put this very simple: It doesn’t fucking matter. They will still end the season against each other, they will still play every year, Woody and Bo do not have to spin in their grave. The best part is Penn State got screwed.

The Game

The Beach, FL- Ah, the Big Ten, the greatest conference in all of college football. The conference I grew up loving and admiring, always on the cutting edge of college sports. Traditionally one of the better conferences in all of the NCAA. Home to some of the best academics in the Midwest, and for sure home of the best trophies for inter-conference games anywhere in all of college football.

Preseason has begun in Charlotte

Ontario, CA – The Carolina Panthers opened the preseason last night, unfortunately I was forced to watch the game on a bad television in a hotel. I would have much rather been behind the bar back in Dilworth. Enough of my problems let’s talk about the Panthers problems. Here are some brief early observations:

College Football, Yeah!

The Beach, FL- Its that time of year again, time for every campus around the US to be filled with high asperations, and thoughts of Heismans and Sears Trophy’s. Although we all would like our team to win those awards, is that really why college football is the greatest sport in America? The answer is no, here are some things that always get my heart pumping around the start of college football season.

A Dilworth XMas Eve Poem

December 22nd, 2009 § 0

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the bar

The Drunks were stirring, coming from near and far;

The ales were chilling in the cooler with care,

In hopes that St. Micholas would soon serve beer;

The barstools were nestled all snug up along the rail,

While visions of lemon drops on the way without fail;

And Eric in his sweater, and I in my Dilworth Billiards Tuke,

Had just stocked up the coolers for evening of booze, not a fluke,

Random Shit

The Beach, FL- Time for some random shit!

Rick Reilly of ESPN went on a major rant a couple days ago telling Tiger that he needs to fire everyone around him, to make things right with his wife. When did Rick Reilly become the authority on things that are Tiger? Once again, a reporter who never played the game at the level that a pro athlete does, is giving advice about what Tiger should do. Hey Reilly, you suck!

Tebow Cries, Pelini and Kelly are good, and Tebow Cries

December 6th, 2009 § 0

Galloway, OH – As the weather turned cold in the South this week, I decided it was time to get someplace colder. So I watched the championship games stashed in a safe house on the West Side of Columbus. Great way to spend a day, but the rest of that is none of anyone’s business. Plus anyplace to watch Tebow cry is good.

The real reason for the trip was to walk through the Columbus airport and watch the look on the Bucknuts faces when they saw my hideous big yellow Oregon sweatshirt. I am not a Ducks fan, but it is the ugliest, most comfortable hoodie ever, and why not use it to set up the BCS bowls? The game we knew going into yesterday was the Rose Bowl with the Bucks and Ducks ready to head to the Grand Daddy for a Big Ten vs. Pac 10 champions battle. At least there is one thing normal about this season.

World Cup: The Other Football

December 4th, 2009 § 2

The guy at the end of the bar…

Charlotte, North Carolina

Will it be 1950 all over again?? We can only hope! What am I talking about? Why… World Cup 2010 obviously!

Today was the draw for World Cup 2010.  The draw is traditionally the only sports event that is more rigged than the BCS computers.  This year however many surprises as the draw was the most balanced that I can remember.

BCS Predictions

October 29th, 2009 § 0

10/29/09

By: The Young Bartender

The Beach, FL- As I sat at my bar last night and watched Cliff Lee sit the Yankees down , some patrons started discussing the BCS, right before they left for the strip club. It got me thinking that we are getting close to the fun that is Bowl Season. Before the fun though comes the controversy of the bowl selection process, especially the BCS nonsense. As I shook another Cosmopolitan to a couple business ladies, I thought,  how is this college football season going to shake out. Who is going to be left standing, and who is going to get screwed. Here is my prediction on how the season will shape up as we get closer to Bowl Championship Series (by the way why do they call it a series, when it’s a one game championship?).
