Football and Point Spreads

Dilworth, NC – Ohio State opened the season last night, smashing the bumbling turds, YAWN… I head to Ann Arbor in the morning to see U of M re-dedicate the Big House.  What a great day it will be for this famous old stadium.  The press box looks awesome, the new luxury boxes are great.  One last problem, Michigan sucks.  They are 2 and a half point favorites over UConn.  Take the points, the Huskies may beat the hell out of the Wolverines.  For my friends that love the ugly helmets I hope they fare well, but I don’t think it will happen.  Of course, a lot of Wolverine fans are rooting for RichFraud to get fired so they may enjoy it.  Michigan should lose this game.

Nike, BYU, Rexy, Favre, and Clemens

August 19th, 2010 § 1

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – Oh what a fun day to read the internet, Tony Dungy and Rex Ryan made up, Clemens got indicted, Brett Favre upstaged with Percy Harvin collapsing.  Then the cherry on the top of the drink today, is Nike messing with Ohio State’s uniforms again.  They won’t be released just yet, but Nike has said they will be honoring 1954 National Championship team.  It is good to honor teams of the past, but all it is just a money grab by Nike and the university.  If they want to go with a throwback do it against another team.  Part of being a Buckeye is showing off how many Buckeyes you have earned for the season, not having those on your helmet for the biggest game of the year is like having a trumpet player dot the “i”.

Favre, Pacquiao, and Other Thoughts

December 23rd, 2009 § 0

Dilworth, NC – So there are some questions and arguments that have come up during this time of giving. Let’s look at all this hubbub going on as gifts.

Brad Childress to Brett Favre – A ration of shit, and embarrassing a legend on national TV. I myself didn’t see it when it happened, I was busy hosting my Hideous XMas party 12 blocks from the bruhaha. Childress get over yourself, you have staked your career on building a team around a player you didn’t have, now you have him, you are a couple of wins away from a bye in the playoffs, let him check off and try to win this thing for you. Favre is teflon, no matter what he does people love him and will always love him, he is John Wayne wrapped around Joe Montana. Ride the storm and win the NFC.

NFL Projections

November 19th, 2009 § 0

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – The NFL season has separated the haves from have nots. We have our first coaching casualty this week, with more to come, more on that later. Instead why not take a best guess about what the playoffs will look like this season.

11/7/9

Dilworth, NC – This is part two of what I am rooting for this weekend, not that anyone really cares what I am rooting for, but hey, it gives you a chance to agree or disagree. Either way it is a fun way to look at the NFL weekend that starts tomorrow.

Tea and Helmets

Airway Heights, WA – Just outside the door of the casino I am sandwiched between a bankrupt racetrack and a state prison. This is not any place to expect to see Queen Elizabeth II, but if Bill Belichick wants to see her, he has the chance this week. It is time for the NFL to schill its form of football across the pond.

In honor of the American Bowl in Wembley Stadium we compare this weeks games to different kinds of Scotch, it is part of Great Britain and the only Alcohol the English are good at is Newcastle and Tetley’s. Understand that Scotch is a personal choice, usually based on wallet size. According to Wikipedia, the earliest written record of Scotch was in 1494, so about the time Lou Holtz was born. It was written in the Exchequer Rolls, “Eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor, by order of the King, wherewith to make aqua vitae.” For us American football fans aqua vitae, means “water of life.” Much as the NFL is the “sport of life” to Americans.

Do we know who they are in the AFC?

October 22nd, 2009 § 0

By Just A. Bartender

10/22/9

Spokane, WA – Last week was the anniversary of Dennis Green’s famous post game, “we knew who they are” tirade. At this point in the NFL season do we know who they are? The Broncos and Saints seem to be the best teams, hmmm, it does seem weird, so taking a brief look division by division in the AFC first to think about who is who and what to expect.

Great Weekend for a Boilermaker

October 20th, 2009 § 1

By Just A. Bartender

10/20/9

Dilworth, NC – It all started Saturday afternoon, 1-5 Purdue handing Ohio State its first Big Ten road loss in 16 games. If you didn’t watch the game, you probably thought, oh must have been a fluke play here or there that saw the Boilermakers knock off the Bucks. Uh, no, Purdue out-gained OSU 361 to 287, had 24 first downs to the Bucks 12. Purdue had built a 23 to 7 lead in the third quarter. Ohio State’s vaunted highly recruited quarterback Terrelle Pryor was 17 of 31 for 221 yards, 1TD, 34 yards rushing and 1TD. He also had 2 interceptions, 2 fumbles, and a number of mental mistakes. Pryor has not developed at all under center since coming to Ohio State, perhaps he should look to transfer away from Sweater Vest. A breakdown on Jim Tressel and why he should go pound sand later in the week. This is about Purdue quarterbacks and how good they have been. Maybe Vest should take notes on quarterback development from Joe Tiller.
