Football and Point Spreads

September 3rd, 2010 § 0

Dilworth, NC – Ohio State opened the season last night, smashing the bumbling turds, YAWN… I head to Ann Arbor in the morning to see U of M re-dedicate the Big House.  What a great day it will be for this famous old stadium.  The press box looks awesome, the new luxury boxes are great.  One last problem, Michigan sucks.  They are 2 and a half point favorites over UConn.  Take the points, the Huskies may beat the hell out of the Wolverines.  For my friends that love the ugly helmets I hope they fare well, but I don’t think it will happen.  Of course, a lot of Wolverine fans are rooting for RichFraud to get fired so they may enjoy it.  Michigan should lose this game.

The Big Ten Decides

September 1st, 2010 § 0

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – We have the divisions, they did it, Ohio State and Michigan have been separated, to put this very simple: It doesn’t fucking matter. They will still end the season against each other, they will still play every year, Woody and Bo do not have to spin in their grave. The best part is Penn State got screwed.

College Football Eve

September 1st, 2010 § 0

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – The glory of college football is about to start again, but before we can get to the new season, the Big Ten is trying to steal the show at 7PM tonight announcing its new divisions.  BYU looked to upstage the new season with it announcing its independence this morning.  Nike couldn’t sit on the sideline and released how it is bastardizing Ohio State, Alabama and eight other schools uniforms today as well (http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/usnikefootball/en_US/).  I have attacked the honoring of teams past by Nike before. (my last column was misinformed it is the 1942 team, not the 1954 team Nike is honoring/disgracing)  So with all of this going on, what do you say we take a look at Thursday’s games and see what could happen.

Nike, BYU, Rexy, Favre, and Clemens

August 19th, 2010 § 1

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – Oh what a fun day to read the internet, Tony Dungy and Rex Ryan made up, Clemens got indicted, Brett Favre upstaged with Percy Harvin collapsing.  Then the cherry on the top of the drink today, is Nike messing with Ohio State’s uniforms again.  They won’t be released just yet, but Nike has said they will be honoring 1954 National Championship team.  It is good to honor teams of the past, but all it is just a money grab by Nike and the university.  If they want to go with a throwback do it against another team.  Part of being a Buckeye is showing off how many Buckeyes you have earned for the season, not having those on your helmet for the biggest game of the year is like having a trumpet player dot the “i”.

The Beach, FL- Its that time of year again, time for every campus around the US to be filled with high asperations, and thoughts of Heismans and Sears Trophy’s. Although we all would like our team to win those awards, is that really why college football is the greatest sport in America? The answer is no, here are some things that always get my heart pumping around the start of college football season.

College Football: No National Champion

August 11th, 2010 § 0

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – It is almost that time again when Saturday becomes our favorite day of the week. College Football camps have opened, SEC camps have been closed to the press, NCAA investigators are ruling on Michigan, Sportcenter is repeating the same story over and over out of their magazine, and now it is already time to talk about who will win the National Title. This should be fun, because years from now when you look in a sports almanac next to 2010 national champion, it will read: Vacated. So there has to be a reason no one gets credit for this title, so how better to come back from summer vacation than to cynically say why your team won’t win the title.

So what of the SEC, ACC, MWC, and Big East

Dilworth, NC – As I wrote of the Super Conference, that opened the question about what the SEC and the others are going to do if the Big Ten and the Pac 10 move to 16 schools.  The SEC would probably be first to act, so who would they take to go from 12 to 16. (with likely percentage of them joining the SEC)

Dilworth, NC – The Bartenders have been off for awhile, with college football dormant, but it is time to wake up the ghosts of the gridiron.   Today’s topic the building of the Super Conference, and no fear I think Woody would like this.

Favre, Pacquiao, and Other Thoughts

December 23rd, 2009 § 0

By Just A. Bartender

Dilworth, NC – So there are some questions and arguments that have come up during this time of giving. Let’s look at all this hubbub going on as gifts.

Brad Childress to Brett Favre – A ration of shit, and embarrassing a legend on national TV. I myself didn’t see it when it happened, I was busy hosting my Hideous XMas party 12 blocks from the bruhaha. Childress get over yourself, you have staked your career on building a team around a player you didn’t have, now you have him, you are a couple of wins away from a bye in the playoffs, let him check off and try to win this thing for you. Favre is teflon, no matter what he does people love him and will always love him, he is John Wayne wrapped around Joe Montana. Ride the storm and win the NFC.
